522616-8

Yale 522616-8 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Throttle Not at Command Position (GM Engines Only)

Issue description

Throttle Actual vs. Commanded Error. The electronic throttle body (ETB) plate is failing to reach the exact position commanded by the ECU. The accelerator is not in the completely closed or open position as expected.

Applies to these machines

  • Yale and Hyster Forklifts
  • GLC120VX
  • GLC100VX
  • GLP/GDP/GC VX series
  • S40FT
  • S50FT
  • S60FT
  • S70FT
  • H60FT
  • H80FT
  • H100FT

Check the cause

  1. Perform a power cycle by turning the truck power OFF for no less than 30 seconds, then ON to see if the DTC clears.

  2. Conduct a visual inspection of all connectors and wiring associated with the electronic throttle body and the accelerator pedal position sensor for shorts, open circuits, or loose pins.

  3. Check for a sticky throttle body mechanism by starting the engine and exercising the accelerator pedal with the vehicle in neutral (for GM 2.4L engines, verify idle at 775-825 rpm and governed speed of 2675-2725 rpm at full pedal).

  4. Verify the accelerator pedal position sensor (foot pedal) is functioning correctly and not sending conflicting signals to the ECU.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery to ensure safety and prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Wiring Repair

If the visual inspection revealed damaged wiring or corroded connectors at the throttle body harness, repair or replace the affected wiring.

  3. Clean the Throttle Body

If the throttle body mechanism is sticky due to carbon buildup, remove the intake hose and attempt to clean the throttle body plate and bore using an approved throttle body cleaner and a soft brush.

  4. Replace the Throttle Body

If cleaning does not resolve the issue, or if the internal throttle position sensor/motor has failed, replace the Electronic Throttle Assembly (ETA).

  5. Reassemble and Reconnect

Install the new throttle body, reconnect the intake hose, plug in the electrical harness, and reconnect the battery.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Turn the ignition ON. Perform an On-Board (OBD) System Check or use a Diagnostic Scan Tool (DST) to clear DTC 522616-8. Start the engine and verify that the idle is steady and the engine reaches governed speed smoothly without bogging down.
