Yale 522697-12 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM): Internal Central Processor or Circuitry Faults
Issue description
The internal microprocessor, RAM, or circuitry within the engine controller has experienced a critical functional failure or redundancy error.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- Yale and Hyster Forklifts
- Yale VX Series (GLP050VX, GP/GLP/GDP135VX)
- Hyster FT Series
Check the cause
Check system battery voltage and alternator output to ensure the ECU is receiving the correct operating voltage.
Inspect the main fuses and the Power Distribution Module (PDM) relays (such as the ignition relay) for blown fuses or shorted relay coils.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the ECU for signs of corrosion, moisture intrusion, or bent pins.
Verify all power supply and ground circuits to the ECU using a multimeter.
Check for any other active sensor codes (such as a 5V reference short to ground) that could be pulling down the ECU's internal voltage and simulating a processor failure.
Repair steps
Turn off the forklift ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable.
Locate the Engine Control Unit (ECU) in the engine bay or under the cowl.
Carefully unlatch and disconnect the wiring harness connectors from the ECU.
Remove the mounting bolts/hardware and extract the faulty ECU.
Install the replacement ECU and secure the mounting hardware.
Reconnect the wiring harness connectors, ensuring they click fully into place.
Reconnect the battery.
Reprogram/Flash the ECU.
A new ECU will likely require flashing to match the truck's specific configuration. (For example, Mazda LPG ECUs require reprogramming via CAN using an IFAK Cable and the appropriate MOT files).
Clear the fault codes and cycle the ignition to verify the code does not return.
