522710-4

Yale 522710-4 – VSM (Vehicle System Manager): Throttle A Position Sensor OORL (Out of Range Low) / Accelerator A Position Sensor OORL

Issue description

The system has detected that the signal voltage from the primary throttle/accelerator position sensor has dropped below the acceptable minimum threshold.

Applies to these machines

  • Yale and Hyster Forklifts
  • Yale Veracitor VX Series (GC-VX, GLC-VX, GLP-VX, GDP-VX)
  • Hyster Fortis FT Series (H-FT, S-FT)

Check the cause

  1. Ensure the truck power is OFF and disconnect the indicated throttle position sensor connector.

  2. Check for Open Signal Circuit: Set a Digital Multimeter (DMM) to the ohms scale. At the sensor harness connector, measure the resistance between the sensor signal pin (+) and the sensor ground pin (-). If the resistance measurement is infinite, the sensor signal wire has an open circuit.

  3. Check for Short to Sensor Ground: If the resistance between the sensor signal pin and the sensor ground pin is less than 0.5 ohms, the signal wire is shorted to the sensor ground wire.

  4. Check for Short to Frame Ground: Measure the resistance between the sensor signal pin and a clean frame ground on the truck. If the resistance is less than 0.5 ohms, the signal wire is shorted to the frame ground.

  5. Verify Controller Inputs: Check the wiring harness and connectors for physical damage, corrosion, or loose pins between the sensor and the VSM.

Repair steps

  1. Wiring Repair

If the diagnostic checks reveal an open circuit or a short to ground, locate the damaged section of the wiring harness. Repair or replace the affected wire/connector as per standard wire harness repair guidelines.

  2. Sensor Replacement

If the wiring tests pass and resistance values are normal, the sensor itself has failed. Ensure truck power is OFF, remove the faulty Throttle Position Sensor, and install the replacement.

  3. Reconnection

Ensure that all harness connections are completely inserted and locked into place.

  4. Verification

Turn the truck power ON. Test the throttle pedal operation. If the reported DTC does not reoccur, the problem is corrected.

  5. Controller Check

If the DTC immediately reoccurs after replacing the sensor and verifying the harness, there is likely a functional failure in the VSM/Controller, which may require replacement or reprogramming.
