Yale 522712-4 – VSM (Vehicle System Manager): Accelerator A Position Sensor OORL (Out Of Range Low)
Issue description
The signal voltage from the primary accelerator pedal position sensor (Sensor A) has dropped below the minimum expected threshold. The system detects an abnormally low voltage, which triggers a failsafe mode (often disabling the transmission or limiting the truck to creep mode).
Applies to these machines
11 machines- Yale and Hyster Forklifts
- 2005 and newer Hyster and Yale forklifts
- Yale Veracitor VX series
- GLP030VX
- GLP060
- GLC030
- ERP16VT
- Hyster Fortis FT series
- H50FT
- H60FT
- S50FT
Check the cause
Check for User Error: Did someone unplug the accelerator pedal while the key was in the ON position? This will immediately trigger the 522712-4 code.
Inspect the Wiring Harness: Visually inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the accelerator pedal and the VSM for physical damage, pinched wires, or corrosion.
Test Voltages: Use a multimeter to verify that the sensor is receiving its +5V supply voltage and that the ground circuit is intact.
Check for Shorts: Test the signal wire for continuity and ensure it is not shorted to the frame ground or the sensor ground.
Clear the Code: Turn the truck power OFF for no less than 30 seconds, then turn it back ON to see if the displayed DTC clears.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn the forklift off and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during repair.
Repair Wiring
If your diagnostic checks revealed an open circuit or a short to ground in the harness, repair the damaged wiring or replace the connector pins. Clean any dirty plug connections with electrical contact cleaner.
Replace the Sensor/Pedal
If the wiring is verified to be good, the internal Hall Effect sensor in the pedal has likely failed. Remove the mounting bolts for the accelerator pedal assembly, disconnect the electrical pigtail, and install the replacement sensor or complete pedal assembly.
Reassemble and Test
Reconnect the battery and turn the key ON. Test the pedal operation.
Calibration
Depending on the exact model and software version, a new throttle position sensor may require calibration via the dash display (DSC) or a PC service tool, which requires a dealer service password.
Controller Replacement
If the new sensor and wiring are verified good but the code persists, the VSM has a functional failure. Replacing the VSM requires resident service approval and transferring the truck's serial number/CDF data to the new module.
