Yale 522737-10 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Vehicle System Controller: Pre Catalytic Converter Oxygen (O2) Sensor (Slow Response)

The primary oxygen sensor (located before the catalytic converter on Bank 1) is "lazy" and not reacting quickly enough to changes in the exhaust gas oxygen content, which affects the engine's air-fuel ratio adjustments.

   Inspect the Pre-Cat O2 sensor's wiring harness and connector for physical damage, melting, or corrosion

   Check the battery voltage and traction system connections, as underlying electrical/voltage issues can sometimes trigger false sensor codes

   Verify if there are any exhaust leaks near the pre-cat sensor, which can skew the oxygen readings and cause a slow response

   Locate the Sensor

   Identify the Pre-Catalytic Converter Oxygen (O2) Sensor on Bank 1 of the engine exhaust manifold/pipe.

   Inspect Wiring

   Disconnect the sensor's electrical connector and inspect the pins. If the wiring is damaged, repair the harness.

   Remove the Sensor

   If the wiring is intact, the sensor is likely failing (lazy). Use an O2 sensor socket to carefully remove the old sensor from the exhaust pipe.

   Install the New Sensor

   Thread the new OEM replacement oxygen sensor into the exhaust by hand to prevent cross-threading, then tighten it to the manufacturer's torque specifications.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the new sensor.

   Secondary Diagnostics

   If the code persists after replacing the sensor, you must diagnose the catalytic converter for inactivity (clogging/failure) or test the ECU controller for functional failures.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the fault codes from the system and test-run the forklift under load to ensure the code does not return.
