Yale 522760-3 – VSM (Vehicle System Manager): Switched Battery Voltage 1 (IGN 1) OORH (Out Of Range High)
Issue description
The voltage on the Ignition 1 (IGN 1) switched circuit is higher than the expected threshold. The system is detecting battery voltage on a switched line when it should be off, or the voltage is shorting to an unswitched constant power source.

Check the cause
Visually inspect the Power Distribution Module (PDM) for moisture, water pooling, or corrosion on the terminals, especially if the forklift was recently washed or in the rain.
Verify if any aftermarket accessories (strobe lights, extra work lights, fans) were recently installed and are improperly backfeeding voltage into the IGN 1 circuit.
Measure battery voltage at the terminals with the ignition OFF and ON to establish the baseline system voltage.
With the truck powered OFF, disconnect the VSM and PDM harnesses. Use a multimeter to measure voltage across the IGN 1 pins to the negative battery terminal to check for a short to constant power.
Repair steps
Power Down
Ensure the truck power is completely OFF and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent accidental shorts during testing.
Inspect and Clean the PDM
Open the Power Distribution Module. If moisture or corrosion is found, thoroughly dry the fusebox using compressed air and clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. Replace any heavily corroded fuses or relays.
Isolate the Short
Disconnect the main harness between the PDM and the VSM. Reconnect the battery and test the IGN 1 output pin at the PDM. If the pin shows voltage when the ignition is OFF, the internal circuitry of the PDM is shorted, and the PDM must be replaced. If the PDM tests fine, probe the IGN 1 wire in the harness leading to the VSM. If it shows continuity to a constant 12V/24V source, locate the chafed wire in the harness and repair/splice it.
Test the VSM
If the wiring harness and PDM are completely clear of shorts, but the code persists and the truck remains in limp mode, the VSM has suffered an internal functional failure (shorted internal driver).
Replace and Calibrate
If replacing the VSM, install the new module. Note that a replacement VSM must be calibrated and flashed with the correct software for the specific forklift's serial number and hydraulic configuration (e.g., manual levers vs. electro-hydraulic touch controls) to operate correctly.
Final Verification
Clear the fault codes, cycle the ignition, and operate the mast and drive functions to ensure the 522760-3 code does not return.
