Yale 522760-4 – VSM (Vehicle System Manager): Switched Battery Voltage 1 (IGN 1) OORL (Out of Range Low)

Issue description

This code indicates that the measured voltage on the Switched Battery 1 (Ignition 1) circuit has dropped below the allowable threshold. The system is detecting either an open circuit or a short to ground on the ignition voltage output.

Applies to these machines

  • Yale and Hyster Forklifts
  • Yale GLP050
  • Yale GLC030
  • Hyster H50FT
  • Hyster S80FT

Check the cause

  1. Check Aftermarket Accessories: Disconnect any non-factory devices first. Improperly wired aftermarket devices (e.g., backup alarms, impact monitors, scales, or scanners) tapping into the ignition power supply and shorting the circuit is the most common cause.

  2. Check Fuses: Inspect the fuses in the power distribution box, specifically the F9 fuse, which is known to blow when this specific short occurs.

  3. Inspect the Battery and Grounds: Ensure the battery is charging correctly while running and that all battery cables and ground connections are clean and tight.

  4. Test the Relays: Use a multimeter to test the ignition relays in the power distribution box. Check the relay coils for a short circuit.

Repair steps

  1. Isolate the Short

If the F9 fuse is blown, do not simply replace it. Disconnect the backup alarm wiring and any added accessories, then install a new fuse to see if it holds.

  2. Test and Replace the Relay

Locate the Ignition 1 relay in the power distribution box. Use a multimeter to verify component functionality. If the relay coil is shorted, replace the faulty relay.

  3. Inspect Wiring

If the relay and accessories are fine, trace the wiring harness for the IGN 1 and IGN 3 circuits to find any exposed wires shorting to the chassis ground.

  4. Swap the Power Distribution Box (Optional)

If the issue persists, technicians recommend swapping the power distribution box with a known good unit to rule out internal box failures.

  5. Clear the Code

Once the physical repair is made, the code may need to be manually cleared from the VSM using the dashboard display (requires a service password) or diagnostic software like Jaltest.
