Yale 522772-4 – Vehicle System Controller (VSC) / Power Distribution Module (PDM): Backup Lamp Driver Output OORL
Issue description
The electrical circuit controlling the forklift's backup (reverse) lamp is drawing too much current or has lost its expected voltage, which is almost always caused by the lamp driver output being shorted to ground.
Applies to these machines
8 machines- Yale and Hyster Forklifts
- 2005 and newer Yale and Hyster forklifts
- Yale VX series
- GLC-VX
- GLP-VX
- Hyster FT series
- S50FT
- S60FT
Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Inspect the backup lamp assembly for physical damage, water intrusion, or melted contacts that could cause an internal short.
Wiring Harness Check: Trace the wiring from the backup lamp back to the controller. Look for pinched, chafed, or bare wires touching the forklift's metal chassis (short to ground).
Multimeter Testing: Disconnect the backup lamp and use a multimeter to check for continuity to ground on the power supply wire.
Controller Isolation: If the wiring and the lamp test fine, the fault points to a failed driver circuit inside the controller.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the forklift and disconnect the battery to prevent further electrical damage.
Isolate the Short
Disconnect the backup lamp connector. Reconnect the battery and turn the key on. If the code clears or changes to an 'OORH' (Out of Range High / Open Circuit) code, the short is inside the backup lamp assembly itself.
Replace the Lamp
If the lamp is internally shorted, unbolt the old housing, install the new backup lamp assembly, and plug it into the harness.
Repair the Harness
If the short is in the wiring, locate the chafed section of the harness. Splice in a new section of wire using weather-sealed heat-shrink butt connectors, and wrap the harness in protective loom.
Replace the Controller
If the wiring harness and lamp are completely intact and free of shorts, the controller has suffered a functional failure. The controller must be replaced and flashed/calibrated by a certified Yale dealer.
Clear Codes
Cycle the key to verify the repair. The code should move from active to historic and can be cleared from the dash display.
