Yale 523780-4 – VSM (Vehicle System Manager): Park Brake Position Sensor OORL (Out Of Range Low)

The signal voltage from the park brake position sensor has dropped below the normal operating range. This is typically caused by a sensor supply/signal open circuit, sensor signal shorted to ground, internal sensor failure, or functional failure in the controller.

   Physically verify that the sensor is moving when the park brake is applied and check the park brake sensor adjustment

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors for damage, corrosion, open circuits, or shorts to ground

   Test the sensor output voltage to ensure it is sending a signal back to the controller

   Verify the controller sensor input voltages to rule out a malfunctioning VSM

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks reveal opens or shorts to ground in the wiring harness, repair or replace the affected wiring/connectors.

   Replace Sensor

   If the wiring is intact but the sensor fails to output the correct voltage (or has failed internally), replace the park brake position sensor.

   Test Controller

   If the sensor and wiring are both confirmed to be good but the OORL code persists, test the controller module (VSM) sensor input. Replace the controller module if it is proven faulty.
