Yale 523833-4 – VSM / ECU: Glow Plug Relay Driver Output OORL (Out of Range Low)

The controller has detected a low voltage output on the circuit that drives the glow plug relay. The underlying condition is typically caused by the relay coil being shorted to ground, a wiring harness short to ground, or a functional failure within the controller's output driver circuitry.

   Visually inspect the wiring harness between the controller (VSM/ECU) and the glow plug relay for any breaks, chafing, or shorts to ground.

   Use a multimeter to test the glow plug relay coil to check if it is internally shorted to ground.

   Test the controller driver output pins to verify if the controller is sending the proper voltage signal when the glow plugs are commanded on.

   Disconnect battery

   Disconnect the battery to ensure safety while working on the electrical system.

   Repair or replace wiring

   If the diagnostic checks reveal a short to ground in the wiring harness, repair or replace the damaged section of the wiring.

   Replace glow plug relay

   If the glow plug relay coil is found to be shorted or defective, remove the old relay and install a replacement.

   Verify repair

   Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes, and cycle the ignition to verify if the code returns.

   Replace controller

   If the wiring and relay are both in good working order but the fault persists, the controller's output driver circuitry has failed. You will need to test and replace the controller (VSM/ECU).
