Yale 524223-0 – Transmission Controller / VSM (Vehicle System Manager): XMSN Reverse Pressure Greater Than Commanded Pressure

Issue description

This fault indicates that the transmission reverse pressure is reading higher than what the controller is commanding. The possible underlying conditions include: Sensor supply open circuit, Sensor failure, Functional failure — Mechanical, and Functional failure in the controller.

Applies to these machines

  • Yale and Hyster Forklifts
  • Yale GLC060VX
  • Yale ERP030VT
  • Hyster H50FT
  • Hyster S55FTS

Check the cause

  1. Turn the machine's power to OFF for no less than 30 seconds, and then to ON to clear the displayed DTC. Operate the forklift to see if the reported DTC reoccurs.

  2. Conduct a visual inspection of all connectors and the sensor power supply wiring harness associated with the transmission pressure sensors. Look for any breaks, corrosion, or loose connections.

  3. Perform a sensor supply voltage test: Ensure truck power is OFF, disconnect the indicated sensor connector, and turn truck power ON. Measure the voltage across the sensor supply pin (+) and the sensor ground pin (-) at the harness connector. It should read approximately 5 Vdc.

  4. Inspect mechanical parts related to reverse pressure, such as the transmission valve body, valves, and seals, for sticking or damage.

Repair steps

  1. Repair wiring harness

If the visual inspection or voltage test reveals an open circuit or short, repair or replace the damaged wiring harness or connector.

  2. Replace transmission pressure sensor

If the sensor supply circuit tests OK (receiving 5 Vdc) but the code persists, the sensor has likely failed internally. Raise the hood, disconnect the battery, locate the transmission pressure sensors on top of the transmission, tag the electrical connector, remove the faulty reverse pressure sensor, and install the new one. Reconnect the harness and battery, then test the machine in reverse.

  3. Inspect or replace transmission valve body

If replacing the sensor does not resolve the issue, the transmission valve body must be inspected and potentially replaced or rebuilt due to a mechanical functional failure.
