Yale 524227-3 – Vehicle System Manager (VSM): Manual Hydraulic Lockout Coil OORH
Issue description
The system has detected an abnormally high voltage condition in the circuit responsible for the manual hydraulic lockout/enable valve. This can be caused by a coil driver output shorted to battery, an internal coil short, or a functional failure in the controller.
Applies to these machines
4 machines- Yale and Hyster Forklifts
- Yale and Hyster forklifts manufactured from 2005 and newer
- Yale Veracitor (VX)
- Hyster Fortis (FT)
Check the cause
Visually inspect the wiring harness from the main controller to the manual hydraulic enable valve coil for chafed insulation or pinched wires (diagnosing harness shorted to battery).
Disconnect the manual hydraulic lockout coil and measure resistance across its terminals. A dead short or extremely low ohms indicates an internally shorted coil (diagnosing coil short).
With the coil disconnected and key ON, check the coil driver output pins on the harness side. Full battery voltage indicates the harness is shorted to the battery (diagnosing coil driver output shorted to battery).
If wiring harness and coil resistance test normal, the fault lies within the controller (diagnosing VSM functional failure).
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Always disconnect the forklift's battery before performing electrical repairs or replacing components.
Address Wiring Issues
If a short to the battery was found in the harness, locate the damaged section. Splice and solder in new wiring, seal with heat shrink, and secure the harness away from pinch points or hot engine components.
Replace the Coil
Locate the manual hydraulic enable valve on the hydraulic control valve block. Remove the retaining nut or clip holding the coil to the valve stem. Slide the old coil off the valve cartridge. Slide the new coil onto the cartridge and secure it with the retaining nut/clip. Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring the weather seal is intact.
Replace the Controller
If diagnostics point to a functional failure in the controller, remove the VSM/ECU. Note that a new controller will likely need to be flashed/programmed by an authorized Yale dealer to match the specific truck's parameters.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use the onboard dash display or a diagnostic handset (like Jaltest or Yale PC Service Tool) to clear the fault codes. Operate the hydraulic functions to ensure the code does not return.
Parts you might need
(2)Manual Hydraulic Lockout Coil / Manual Hydraulic Enable Valve Coil
When ordering, you must provide the forklift's exact serial number to the Yale parts counter to ensure the correct coil voltage and connector type for your specific hydraulic control valve block.
