Yale 524227-4 – VSM: Manual Hydraulic Lockout Coil OORL (Out Of Range Low)

Voltage or resistance drop below the expected threshold indicating coil driver output is shorted to ground, wiring or coil has an open circuit, or a functional failure within the controller.

   Inspect the wiring harness connecting the VSM to the manual hydraulic lockout/enable valve coil for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or disconnected pins.

   Use a multimeter to test the circuit from the VSM to the coil for continuity (to rule out an open circuit) and continuity to ground (to rule out a short to ground).

   Disconnect the manual hydraulic lockout coil and measure its internal resistance. A reading of 'OL' (open line) or zero resistance indicates an internal coil failure.

   If the wiring harness and the coil both test within normal parameters, verify the VSM for an internal functional failure.

   Power Down

   Turn off the forklift and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical arcing or further module damage.

   Wiring Repair

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to ground or an open circuit in the harness, repair the damaged section of the wiring or replace the harness pigtail.

   Coil Replacement

   If the coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut on the hydraulic valve block, slide the faulty manual hydraulic lockout coil off the valve stem, and install the new coil.

   VSM Replacement

   If the wiring and coil are perfectly intact, the VSM has suffered an internal driver failure. The VSM will need to be replaced and flashed/calibrated to the truck by a dealer.

   Reassembly & Testing

   Reconnect all electrical connections, reconnect the battery, and power on the forklift. Operate the manual hydraulic levers to ensure the lockout disengages and verify that the 524227-4 code has cleared from the dash.
