524245-3

Yale 524245-3 – VSM (Vehicle System Manager) / Main Controller: Seat Occupancy Position Sensor OORH (Out Of Range High)

Issue description

The system has detected that the voltage signal from the seat occupancy sensor (Operator Presence System) is higher than the maximum expected reference value. This typically indicates an open circuit or a short circuit to a power source. When this code is active, the drive interlock system engages, disabling the forklift's traction and hydraulic functions.

Applies to these machines

  • Yale and Hyster Forklifts
  • Yale Veracitor VX series (e.g., GLC050VX, GDP080VX, 120 VX)
  • Hyster Fortis FT series

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the seat sensor, electrical connector plug, and wiring harness under the seat for cuts, pinches, or damage caused by stored items.

  2. Use a multimeter to check the sensor ground for an open circuit.

  3. Test the sensor signal wire to ensure it is not shorted to the 5V sensor supply voltage or the battery voltage.

  4. Test the input voltages directly at the VSM (controller) to verify the actual signal being received if the wiring harness is intact.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the forklift and disconnect the battery before performing electrical repairs.

  2. Repair Wiring

If the diagnostic tests reveal damaged wires or connectors under the seat, repair or replace the affected section of the wiring harness.

  3. Replace Sensor

If the wiring is good but the sensor is outputting an out-of-range voltage (or has failed internally), remove the seat cushion to access the Operator Presence System switch (often a Hall Effect switch) and replace it with a new unit.

  4. Replace Controller

If the wiring harness and the seat switch both test perfectly fine, but the fault remains active, the VSM/controller has suffered a functional failure and must be replaced.

  5. Test Operation

Reconnect the battery, clear the fault codes, and sit in the seat to verify that the traction and hydraulic interlocks disengage and the machine operates normally.
