Issue description

The 5-volt sensor supply circuit "A" (designated as 5VE1) is experiencing a voltage higher than the acceptable limit (typically > 5.40 volts). This is usually caused by the 5-volt supply line shorting to the main system power (battery voltage), a damaged sensor internal regulator, or an internal failure within the controller.

  • Mazda 2.0L and 2.2L engines

Check the cause

  1. Check for Shorts to Power: Inspect the 5VE1 wiring harness for shorts between the 5V sensor supply line and the main system power (battery voltage).

  2. Isolate the Sensors: Unplug the sensors on the 5VE1 circuit one by one. If the voltage returns to a normal 5V after unplugging a specific sensor, that sensor is the culprit.

  3. Test the Controller: Use a multimeter to test the 5V output pins directly at the ECU/VSM. If the wiring harness is completely isolated and the controller is still outputting an out-of-range high voltage, the controller itself has failed.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the forklift, lower the forks, and disconnect the battery to ensure safety.

  2. Locate the ECU and trace the 5VE1 wiring harness that routes to the engine sensors.

    Sensors include the MAP, IAT, or Throttle Position sensors.

  3. Perform a thorough visual inspection of the harness.

    Look for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or melted connectors that could cause the 5V line to cross with a 12V battery line.

  4. Repair any damaged wiring or replace the affected harness section.

  5. If the wiring is intact, reconnect the battery, turn the ignition to the ON position (engine off), and back-probe the 5VE1 circuit with a multimeter.

  6. Disconnect the 5V sensors one at a time.

    If the voltage drops back into the normal range upon disconnecting a sensor, replace that faulty sensor.

  7. If all sensors are disconnected, the wiring tests good (no shorts to battery), and the voltage at the ECU output is still out of range high, the ECU has suffered an internal functional failure.

  8. Replace the ECU (or VSM, depending on which module is generating the specific 5V reference on your exact chassis).

  9. Reconnect all components, clear the fault codes using the dash display or Yale PC Service Tool, and test the machine to verify the fix.
