Yale 524269-3 – VSM (Vehicle System Manager): Transmission Enable Valve Coil Driver Output OORH (Out Of Range High)
Issue description
The controller has detected an abnormally high voltage, a short to the battery, or an open circuit on the transmission enable valve's coil driver circuit. This throws the transmission into a disabled mode, preventing the forklift from engaging in forward or reverse.
Applies to these machines
3 machines- Yale and Hyster Forklifts
- Yale VX Series (GC050VX, GC135VX, GDP40VX, 50VX)
- Hyster FT Series (S40FTS, H50FT, H70FT, H80FT)
Check the cause
Power Cycle: Turn the truck power to OFF for no less than 30 seconds, and then turn it to ON to clear the displayed DTC. Check if the code reoccurs.
Check Voltage: Locate the transmission enable valve (mounted on the right side of the transmission valve body, lower part, or top of the transmission depending on the exact model). Verify the voltage at the left pin of the connector; it should read 12 volts (battery voltage).
Check Resistance (Open Circuit Test): Ensure truck power is OFF. Set a Digital Multimeter (DMM) to the ohms scale and verify a zero reading. Measure the resistance of the device driver wire between the transmission enable valve connector and the VSM connector. The resistance should be less than 0.5 ohms.
Check for Shorts: Inspect the wiring harness for any visible damage, shorts to the battery, or an internal short in the solenoid itself.
Repair steps
Ensure the forklift is powered off and the battery is disconnected.
Locate the transmission control valve arrangement on the transmission housing.
Clean the area around the control valve body using appropriate solvents.
This prevents debris from entering the clean transmission oil during assembly.
Disconnect the electrical harness from the transmission enable valve.
Remove the socket head screws securing the transmission enable valve to the control valve body and remove the old valve.
Install the new transmission enable valve into the control valve body.
Install the socket head screws and tighten them to 3 to 4 N·m (27 to 35 lbf in).
Reconnect the electrical harness to the solenoid.
Reconnect the battery, power on the truck, and test the transmission for proper forward and reverse engagement.
