Yale 524286-31 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): ECU - ETB Driver Component Failure
Issue description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) has detected an internal circuitry failure within the specific driver component that supplies power and control to the Electronic Throttle Body (ETB) motor.
Applies to these machines
5 machines- Yale and Hyster Forklifts
- Yale (and Hyster) forklifts manufactured from 2005 and newer
- Yale Veracitor VX Series
- GLP/GDP 20-35VX
- GP040-060MX
Check the cause
Check for related codes: Look for DTC 524266-31 (Electronic Throttle Motor/Motor Connections - Short Circuit). A short in the ETB motor or wiring often causes the ECU driver to fail.
Inspect wiring: With the truck power OFF, thoroughly inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the ECU and the Electronic Throttle Body for any shorts to ground, shorts to battery, or high resistance.
Mechanical check: Verify if the throttle mechanism is sticky or incorrectly adjusted. Ensure it operates smoothly without binding.
Operational test: Turn the truck power ON, start the engine, and exercise the accelerator pedal with the vehicle in neutral to see if the throttle body tracks smoothly with pedal movement.
Repair steps
Power Down
Ensure the truck power is completely OFF and disconnect the battery ground cable before servicing.
Resolve Wiring Issues
If the diagnostic checks revealed any damaged wires or corroded connectors between the ECU and the ETB, repair or replace the affected harness sections.
Replace the ETB (if shorted)
If the ETB motor is internally shorted or the throttle mechanism is physically binding/failing, replace the Electronic Throttle Body. (Note: A shorted ETB is a common root cause that burns out the ECU driver).
Replace the ECU
Because code 524286-31 specifically designates an internal "Driver Component Failure", if the wiring and ETB are confirmed good (or have been replaced), the ECU itself has suffered an internal hardware failure and must be replaced.
Re-test
Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, clear the codes, and test the accelerator pedal in neutral to ensure the throttle responds correctly and the code does not return.
