Yale 653-5 – Engine Control Module (ECM): Injector Solenoid Driver Cylinder 3 Circuit - Current Below Normal, or Open Circuit

The engine controller has detected an open circuit or abnormally low current draw in the electrical circuit responsible for firing the fuel injector on Cylinder 3.

   Inspect the wiring harness between the ECM/Injector Driver Module and the Cylinder 3 fuel injector for broken wires, chafing, or disconnected plugs that would cause an open circuit.

   Measure the resistance across the Cylinder 3 fuel injector terminals to verify if the injector's internal solenoid has failed (open circuit).

   Inspect the ECM and Injector Driver Module pins for corrosion or damage, and verify if the module is outputting the correct voltage/current to the injector.

   Disconnect Power

   Before starting work, disconnect the starting battery (negative cable first) using an insulated wrench to prevent accidental starting or electrical arcing.

   Access the Injectors

   Locate the Cylinder 3 fuel injector on the engine block.

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or damaged connector in the Cylinder 3 circuit, repair the harness and ensure a secure connection.

   Replace the Fuel Injector

   If the Cylinder 3 injector solenoid is internally open, remove the faulty injector.

   Install New Injectors

   Install the replacement injector(s). It is highly recommended to replace the entire set of fuel injectors rather than just one. Mixing old/new or genuine/aftermarket injectors can cause issues due to differences in oil output and atomization concentration.

   Use Clean Fluids

   Always use clean oil/fuel during reassembly to prevent immediate contamination of the new injectors.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, clear the active fault codes from the ECM, and test-run the engine to ensure the Cylinder 3 misfire/open circuit is resolved.
