Yale 94-0 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Primary Fuel Pressure Higher Than Expected
Issue description
Triggers when the fuel delivery pressure exceeds the maximum allowable limit for a specific duration. Underlying causes include a fuel pressure sensor wiring fault, a mechanical fuel pressure fault, or a faulty controller.

Check the cause
Visual Wiring Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors at the fuel pressure sensor and the ECU. Look for short circuits, open circuits, corrosion, or loose pins.
Mechanical Pressure Test: Connect a mechanical fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail to verify the actual fuel pressure.
Sensor Verification: Compare the mechanical gauge reading to the live data reading from the fuel pressure sensor using a diagnostic scanner. If the mechanical gauge shows normal pressure but the sensor reads high, the sensor is faulty.
Mechanical System Check: If the mechanical gauge confirms the pressure is actually too high, inspect the fuel pressure regulator for failure and check the fuel return lines for restrictions or blockages.
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the forklift, ensure the area is well-ventilated, and disconnect the battery ground cable to prevent electrical shorts and sparks.
Relieve Pressure
Safely relieve the fuel system pressure before opening any fuel lines or removing sensors.
Wiring Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or connectors, repair or replace the affected section of the harness.
Sensor Replacement
If the sensor was deemed faulty, remove the old fuel pressure sensor from the fuel rail or pump assembly and install the new one.
Regulator/Line Repair
If the actual fuel pressure was high, replace the faulty fuel pressure regulator or clear the blockage in the fuel return line. Controller Replacement
If the wiring, sensor, and mechanical fuel pressure all test perfectly normal, the ECU/Controller has suffered a functional failure and must be replaced.
Reassembly and Clearing Codes
Reconnect the battery. Connect a diagnostic scanner to the forklift, access the control module, and clear the stored fault codes.
Validation
Start the engine and run the forklift through several operating cycles to ensure the code does not return.
