Yale 96-3 – Controller (Vehicle System Manager / VSM): Fuel Level Sensor / LPG Switch OORH (Out of Range High)

This fault code indicates that the voltage signal from the fuel level sensor or LPG switch is reading higher than the maximum expected threshold. Underlying conditions include sensor signal shorted to battery voltage, sensor signal/return open circuit, sensor signal shorted to ground, internal sensor failure, or functional failure in the controller.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the fuel level sensor/LPG switch for physical damage, loose connections, or corrosion

   Use a multimeter to check for power voltage on the fuel level wire harness and verify if the sensor signal wire is shorted to the battery voltage

   Check for an open circuit in the sensor signal and return wiring

   Check for a short to ground in the wiring harness

   Check the component resistance of the sensor itself to see if it is out of specification

   Repair Wiring

   If the diagnostic checks reveal an open circuit or a short (to battery or ground), repair or replace the affected section of the wiring harness.

   Clean Connectors

   Clean any corroded connector terminals to ensure proper contact. Replace the connector pigtail if the corrosion is severe.

   Replace Sensor

   If the wiring and connectors are confirmed to be in good working order, the fuel level sensor or LPG switch has suffered an internal failure and must be replaced.

   Verify Repair

   Clear the fault codes and monitor the sensor data live (or cycle the key) to verify the sensor signals are reading within normal parameters.

   Controller Replacement

   If the issue remains after replacing the sensor and verifying the wiring, test the controller inputs. If the input circuitry is damaged, the controller module will need to be replaced.
