Yale 96-4 – VSM (Vehicle System Manager): Fuel Level Sensor / LPG Switch OORL (Out of Range Low)

The controller is receiving a signal voltage from the fuel level sensor or LPG switch that is lower than the minimum expected operating threshold.

   Check the VSM (under the dash cover on the right-hand side) and connectors for moisture or condensation.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the fuel level sensor/LPG switch to the VSM for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or corroded pins.

   Check for continuity (open circuit) between the sensor connector and the VSM using a multimeter.

   Check for a short to ground on the sensor signal wire.

   Back-probe the sensor to test its output voltage against OEM specifications to see if the sensor is internally shorted or dead.

   Disconnect the Battery

   Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before servicing electrical components or the VSM.

   Dry/Clean Connectors

   If moisture was found at the VSM or the sensor connector, thoroughly dry the connections using compressed air and apply dielectric grease to prevent future moisture intrusion.

   Repair Wiring

   If a short to ground or an open circuit was found during multimeter testing, splice and repair the damaged section of the wiring harness or replace the affected pigtail.

   Replace the Sensor

   If the wiring is completely intact and the VSM is dry, the sensor itself has failed internally. Remove the old Fuel Level Sensor or LPG Switch from the tank/bracket assembly and install the new unit.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition on, and verify the sensor output voltage is now within range. Clear the fault code via the dash display or diagnostic handset.
