A disc spring that has lost its load height will allow axial play in the axle, leading to gear noise and premature bearing failure. The spring is manufactured to the original thickness and outer diameter so that it fits the housing pocket without shimming. When replacing, ensure the spring is oriented with the concave face against the bearing race as originally installed.
