This engine oil filter removes particulate contamination from the lubricating oil before it reaches the engine's main oil gallery and bearing surfaces. It mounts on the engine block and receives oil from the pump; the filter media traps wear debris and combustion byproducts that would otherwise accelerate bearing and cylinder wear. A restricted filter forces the bypass valve open, sending unfiltered oil to the engine, so replacement at the scheduled interval is required. The filter is manufactured to the original housing's thread and seal geometry, ensuring the bypass valve seats correctly and no leakage occurs at the mounting base. On installation, lightly oil the new gasket and tighten the filter to the torque specified by the engine manufacturer.
