This engine oil filter removes particulate from the lubricating oil before it reaches the bearing surfaces and oil galleries. It mounts on the engine block and is the primary full-flow filter in the circuit; all oil passes through the filter media before returning to the sump. A restricted filter reduces oil flow and can cause low oil-pressure warnings at idle. The manufacturer constructs the filter to match the original seal geometry and thread pitch, so the gasket seats correctly against the filter head and no adapter is needed. On replacement, lubricate the new gasket with clean oil and tighten the filter by hand until the gasket contacts the sealing surface, then advance it by the specified rotation.
