This engine oil filter removes particulate contamination from the lubricating oil before it circulates through the engine's bearing and journal surfaces. It mounts in the filter head on the engine block, where unfiltered oil enters the element's outer annulus and passes inward through the filter media to the center tube. The media captures wear debris and combustion byproducts that would otherwise accelerate bearing wear and bore scoring. A clogged filter restricts oil flow, which can cause the bypass valve to open and allow unfiltered oil to reach the engine. The manufacturer produces this element to the same media density, pleat count, and bypass-valve cracking pressure as the original assembly, so the lubrication system maintains its designed flow and pressure characteristics. On installation, verify the gasket seats fully in the filter head groove and tighten the housing to the torque specified by the engine builder.
