This engine oil filter removes particulate and contaminants from the lubricating oil circuit before the oil reaches the main bearing journals and crankshaft surfaces. It mounts to the filter housing on the engine block, where it receives oil directly from the pump. A clogged filter element restricts flow, which can cause the bypass valve to open and allow unfiltered oil to circulate, accelerating bearing wear. The manufacturer's construction matches the housing's thread and seal face geometry so the bypass valve seats correctly at the specified cracking pressure. On reinstall, lubricate the gasket and tighten the filter to the torque specification for the housing.
