This joint connects the steering linkage to the front axle spindle, allowing the wheel hub to pivot in response to steering input. It transmits both axial and radial loads from the wheel assembly into the axle beam. Wear in the joint produces free play at the wheel, which manifests as wandering steering and uneven tire wear. The joint is sealed to retain grease and exclude contaminants. On installation, tighten the retaining nut to the specified torque and secure it with a new cotter pin.
