This bolt secures the conical share point to the plough leg. It passes through the share and threads into the leg, holding the point in position against the forces of soil penetration and impact. The 12.9 hardness rating indicates the bolt is designed to withstand high clamping loads without stretching or shearing under field conditions. A loose or worn bolt allows the share point to shift, leading to uneven furrow depth and accelerated wear on the leg. The nut included in the pack should be torqued to the manufacturer's specification on installation; re-torque after the first few hours of work as the components seat.
