It mounts at the leading edge of the reciprocating sickle section, where its reinforced profile resists bending under heavy crop load. The three mounting holes align with the knife head and hold the blade rigid during the cutting stroke. A dull or chipped knife increases cutting force, leading to ragged stubble and higher fuel consumption. The manufacturer machines the blade to match the original sickle-section geometry, so it seats flush against the hold-down clips without shimming. On replacement, check the knife-head alignment and torque the retaining bolts to specification.
