This oil seal prevents lubricant leakage and blocks external contaminants from entering the bearing or housing assembly. It sits in the bore between a rotating shaft and the stationary housing, where the primary lip retains oil and the secondary dust lip excludes dirt, moisture, and fine debris. A worn or hardened seal allows fluid loss and abrasive ingress, which accelerates shaft scoring and bearing failure. The seal is installed with the dust lip facing outward; the housing bore and shaft surface must be clean and free of burrs to avoid damaging the lip during fitting.
