This external air filter element is installed in the engine air intake system. It captures airborne particulate before it reaches the intake manifold and combustion chambers. The filter element sits in the housing upstream of the inner safety element; the inner filter (CF800) is matched to this outer stage. A loaded or restricted outer filter increases intake restriction, which reduces engine power and can draw unfiltered air past the seal if the restriction exceeds the bypass threshold. The manufacturer machines the sealing surfaces to match the housing groove, ensuring the element seats correctly without bypass leakage. On replacement, clean the housing interior and verify the seal ring is not pinched during installation.
