This external air filter, manufactured by Mann-Filter, removes airborne particulate from the engine intake air of a combine harvester before it enters the turbocharger and combustion chambers. It is installed in the engine air intake housing, upstream of the mass air flow sensor and intake manifold. A restricted filter element causes a pressure drop that reduces engine power and increases fuel consumption; the engine management system may flag a diagnostic code when the restriction indicator reaches its threshold. The filter media is pleated to maximize surface area within the housing dimensions, and the sealing bead at the base matches the housing groove to prevent unfiltered air from bypassing the element. On replacement, ensure the housing sealing surface is clean and the element is fully seated before closing the cover.
