This main engine air filter removes airborne particulate before it enters the intake system, protecting the combustion chamber and turbocharger from abrasive wear. It sits in the primary air cleaner housing upstream of the safety element; the filter media traps dust and debris while maintaining the airflow needed for full power output. A clogged filter restricts intake flow, causing a drop in engine power and increased fuel consumption. The manufacturer designs the element to match the housing's sealing surfaces and bypass-valve cracking pressure, so a replacement restores the original filtration efficiency.
