This engine oil filter removes particulate contamination from the lubricating oil before it reaches the engine's bearing surfaces and oil galleries. It mounts on the engine block and receives full-flow oil from the pump; the filter media traps wear particles and combustion byproducts that would otherwise cause abrasive wear in the crankshaft and connecting-rod journals. A restricted filter forces the bypass valve open, sending unfiltered oil into the engine, so a fresh element is required to maintain full-flow filtration. The filter is constructed to the same canister dimensions and thread specification as the original assembly, which ensures proper sealing against the mounting base and correct bypass-valve cracking pressure. On installation, lightly oil the gasket face and tighten the canister by hand until the gasket contacts the base, then advance the specified additional rotation.
