This fuel filter from Mann Filter removes particulate and water from the diesel supply before the fuel reaches the high-pressure injection components. It is mounted on the engine block and is part of the low-pressure fuel circuit; clean fuel here protects the injection pump and injectors from abrasive wear. A restricted filter causes a pressure drop that can lead to hard starting, loss of power, or erratic idle. The filter uses the original thread and seal geometry so the housing cap seats correctly and the bypass valve opens at the intended differential pressure. On replacement, drain any water from the separator bowl and tighten the housing cap to the specified torque.
