This photocell is the optical sensor that monitors seed flow through the seed tube on a grain drill. It sits in the sensor housing mounted on the metering unit, where its emitter and receiver detect the passage of individual seeds as they drop toward the coulter. A blocked or failed photocell produces a false no-seed signal or fails to register skips, which prevents the cab monitor from alerting the operator to a blockage. The manufacturer machines the lens housing to the same optical alignment as the original assembly, so the beam path matches the seed-tube bore without adjustment. On reinstall, ensure the connector is fully seated and the O-ring seal is intact to keep dust and moisture out of the housing.
