This photocell is the optical sensor that monitors seed flow through the seed tube of the grain drill. It detects the presence or absence of seed passing between its emitter and receiver, generating a signal that the cab monitor uses to alert the operator to blockages or empty seed lines. A dirty or misaligned photocell produces false blockage warnings or fails to detect a genuine blockage, leading to skips in the seedbed. The sensor mounts in the housing on the seed tube and requires a clean optical path to function correctly.
