This component is the fan turbine shaft for the seed drill's pneumatic distribution system. It transmits rotational force from the fan drive to the impeller that generates the air stream used to convey seed from the metering unit to the coulters. Wear on the shaft bearing surfaces or keyway can cause impeller wobble, reducing airflow and leading to uneven seed distribution across the working width. As an original part, it is machined to the same interference fit and keyway dimensions as the fan hub assembly, so no additional shimming or bushing is required during replacement.
