This self-aligning ball bearing supports the straw chopper rotor shaft in the parent combine harvester. It accommodates minor shaft misalignment that occurs during chopper operation, reducing vibration loads on the rotor assembly. The C3 internal clearance allows for thermal expansion of the shaft during sustained high-load operation. A worn bearing produces a low-frequency rumble from the chopper housing and may cause the rotor to contact the stationary knives. The manufacturer machines the raceways to the same geometry as the original component, preserving the factory clearance specification. On installation, press the bearing onto the shaft using the inner ring only to avoid brinelling the raceway.
