This cotter pin secures the clevis pin in the three-point hitch linkage. It passes through a hole in the hitch pin to prevent it from sliding out during operation. A worn or missing cotter pin allows the hitch pin to dislodge, causing the implement to detach from the tractor. The pin is formed from a single piece of wire with a split end that is spread after insertion to lock it in place. On installation, ensure the split ends are fully opened and seated against the pin face.
