This ball bearing supports a rotating shaft within the cutterbar drive of a forage harvester. It is a single-row, deep-groove bearing with contact seals on both sides and a C3 internal clearance, which allows it to accommodate the thermal expansion and load variations present in the driveline. The bearing carries radial and moderate axial loads from the belt or gear drive that powers the cutting mechanism. A failing bearing produces audible rumble or vibration at the cutterbar, and if left in service it can cause shaft misalignment and damage to the housing bore. The manufacturer machines the races to the same tolerance as the original assembly, so no shimming is required during replacement. On installation, press the bearing onto the shaft against a shoulder and seat it squarely in the housing.
