This SKF 6304 2RS ball bearing is a double-sealed, deep-groove radial bearing used in the threshing drum drive and water pump of forage harvesters and disc mowers. It supports the rotating shaft and handles both radial and moderate axial loads within those subassemblies. The 2RS designation indicates two integral contact seals that retain grease and exclude contaminants, which is critical in the dusty, high-moisture environment of a harvesting machine. A worn or contaminated bearing produces audible rumble and shaft play, leading to misalignment of the driven pulley or pump impeller. The manufacturer machines the raceways to the same internal clearance as the original assembly, so no shimming or selective fit is required during replacement. On installation, press the bearing onto the shaft using the inner ring only, and into the housing using the outer ring only, to avoid brinelling the raceways.
