This gas spring supports the hood frame during opening and holds it in the raised position. It is a sealed strut containing pressurized nitrogen and hydraulic oil; the gas provides the lifting force while the oil dampens the opening speed. A loss of gas pressure causes the hood to drop or require excessive effort to lift. The spring is designed to match the original strut’s working force and stroke length, so the hood opens to the same height and stays stable without external props. When replacing, ensure the ball-socket ends are seated fully in their brackets and that the rod extends in the correct orientation.
