This gas strut controls the opening and lifting motion of the tractor hood. It uses compressed nitrogen to provide a controlled, counterbalancing force that holds the hood in the raised position for service access. The strut is mounted between the hood frame and the chassis bracket. Over time, the internal seal can lose charge, causing the hood to drop or require manual propping. This component is manufactured by Stabilus to match the original strut's gas charge and damping characteristics, so the hood opens at the same rate and holds at the same height as the factory assembly. When replacing, ensure the ball-socket ends are fully seated on the mounting studs and that the retaining clips engage completely.
