The compact STIHL MS 172 petrol chainsaw is a practical, versatile saw for garden maintenance work. The saw features a powerful STIHL 2-MIX engine, which combines very good cutting performance with low fuel consumption. The cutting set with a standard 3/8'' chain ensures precise cutting. The STIHL anti-vibration system allows the STIHL MS 172 chainsaw to be operated in a way that does not strain muscles and joints. Thanks to this, the saw also runs quietly and smoothly. One-lever operation allows all functions to be performed with one hand. If you take a break from work, the saw is immediately ready to restart because the combination lever with stop function automatically returns to the working position. Another advantage is the side chain tensioner, which allows safe and simple chain tensioning without contact with the blade. The STIHL MS 172 also has a diagnostic socket for servicing the petrol chainsaw. The solid and compact MS 172 saw enables very economical work when cutting firewood, during smaller maintenance tasks on the property, or during simple craft work. The transparent oil tank allows quick and easy checking of the chain lubrication oil level. This way, you always know when to top up the chain lubrication oil to be able to work efficiently for a long time.
This 2-stroke engine has been designed to require infrequent maintenance and to consume fuel even at high power. A mixture of petrol and engine oil should be used as fuel. The STIHL 2-Mix engine meets the requirements of the strict EU exhaust emissions directive, level V.
In the four transfer channels, the fuel-air mixture is swirled before ignition. This ensures better fuel combustion and significantly increases engine efficiency. The result: lower fuel consumption and high torque over a wide speed range.
When increasing the power of the device, vibrations are generated that are particularly noticeable in the handle area. The buffer elements and springs of the STIHL anti-vibration system reduce the transmission of engine vibrations to the handle area and thus to the user's body. Effect: The device sits more comfortably in the hand, and work is much less tiring.
The adjustment system in the carburetor, the compensator, through pressure equalization ensures that despite increasing air filter contamination, engine power, exhaust quality, and fuel consumption remain almost unchanged for a long time. Therefore, the air filter only needs to be cleaned after a clear drop in performance. This allows maintenance-free operation for a long time.
The side chain tensioner allows safe, easy, and quick tensioning and replacement of the chain. The tensioning screw is accessible from the side through the chain drive cover.
Only one starting position is required on the multi-function lever. After switching off, thanks to the STOP function, the control lever automatically returns to the working position. This allows the warm machine to be restarted immediately.
