This housing encloses the bevel-gear set that transfers drive from the input shaft to the output shaft in a fertilizer spreader. It supports the gear shafts and maintains the correct mesh alignment between the pinion and crown wheel. A cracked or distorted housing allows the gears to shift out of alignment, producing noise and accelerated tooth wear. The original housing is cast to the same internal bore centers as the assembly it replaces, so the gear set can be transferred without shimming. On reinstall, clean the mating face and apply a bead of sealant to prevent lubricant leakage.
