This spring applies closing force to the gatherer finger on the seed drill, holding the finger against the metering disc or seed trough. It sits on the pivot arm of the gatherer assembly; the spring tension determines how firmly the finger sweeps seed into the delivery tube. A weak or broken spring reduces gathering efficiency, leading to skips in the seed row. The spring matches the original rate so that the finger maintains consistent contact without excessive wear on the disc face.
