This starter solenoid is an electromagnetic switch that closes the high-current circuit between the battery and the starter motor when the ignition key is turned. It sits on the starter motor housing; when energized, its plunger pushes the starter pinion into the ring gear and simultaneously completes the main power contact. A failing solenoid produces a single click with no cranking, or intermittent engagement that can damage the starter drive. The manufacturer machines the contact disc and studs to the same copper-alloy specification as the original assembly, so the contact resistance and current-carrying capacity match the starter motor's draw. On installation, ensure the mounting bolts are clean and torqued to spec, and verify that the small control-wire terminal is tight.
