This chain drives the pick-up roller that feeds crop material into the bale chamber. It transmits torque from the drive system to the roller, synchronizing the feed rate with the plunger cycle. A worn or stretched chain causes uneven crop intake, leading to inconsistent bale density and potential jams. The original manufacturer's chain matches the pitch and roller diameter of the drive sprockets, maintaining correct tension without requiring additional shimming. On installation, ensure the chain is tensioned to the manufacturer's specification and lubricated before first operation.
