The manufacturer machines the thread and seal face to match the filter head's sealing surface, ensuring the bypass valve seats correctly and the gasket forms a leak-free seal. On installation, lubricate the gasket with clean oil and tighten the filter by hand until the gasket contacts the mounting face, then advance it by the specified rotation.
